Transmission fluid check
Colour and smell of the ATF/DSG/CVT fluid is a leading indicator of internal wear.
Healthy transmission fluid is bright red (ATF) or amber (DSG/CVT). Brown or burnt-smelling fluid means clutch material is degrading internally — often the canary that predicts a $5,000+ failure within months. Many modern transmissions are 'sealed for life' but fluid still needs checking via the fill port.
