Mechanical
CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission)
A belt-and-pulley auto box used in many Nissans, Subarus and Hondas — known for early failure under load.
CVTs deliver smooth fuel-efficient driving but are mechanically fragile, especially in the Nissan Juke/X-Trail/Pathfinder JATCO unit. Symptoms of failure: shuddering on takeoff, whining at constant speed, slipping under acceleration. Replacement cost: $4,500–$8,500. We test-drive every CVT under load on a PPI.
