Pre-purchase car inspection in Rooty Hill.

Rooty Hill sits right in the middle of western Sydney's busiest private used-car market. Between the streets either side of Rooty Hill Road, the older brick and fibro blocks toward the railway, and the constant churn of listings from families upgrading or downsizing, there is always a car for sale within a few minutes of the station. Most of that trade is private, most of it is under twenty thousand dollars, and most of it changes hands with nothing more than a walk around the car and a drive to the end of the street. That is exactly the kind of purchase where an independent inspection earns its fee many times over. We come to the car, work through a structured inspection, run a professional multi-module diagnostic scan, road test it properly including motorway speed, and hand you a written, photographed report on the spot with a plain verdict and costed repairs. We do not sell cars and the seller pays us nothing.

Same-day or next-day inspection appointments, subject to availability.

Local conditions

What shapes the cars sold around Rooty Hill

This is a value market with a lot of older Australian-built sedans and wagons, a heavy share of motorway commuting on the M4 and M7, hot summers with cars parked in the open, and a long tradition of home mechanics and aftermarket modification. Each of those leaves its own marks on a car, and none of them are visible from the kerb.

LPG conversions and dual-fuel systems

Western Sydney has more LPG-converted cars than anywhere else in the state, and many are now well past the age where the tank, regulator and injectors were designed to last. We check the tank's stamped date and compliance plate, the condition of lines and fittings, whether the car actually starts and runs properly on both fuels, and whether the gas system has simply been disconnected and left in place, which is common and rarely disclosed.

Home-serviced cars with gaps in the record

A lot of cars here have been maintained in the driveway rather than a workshop. That is not a fault in itself, but it means no stamped book and no way to know what was actually done. We assess the physical evidence instead: oil and filter condition, coolant condition, brake fluid, belt and hose age, and whether the parts fitted are the right ones for the car.

Motorway wear from the M4 and M7

Commuting from here means long steady runs at motorway speed, which wears wheel bearings, tyres, suspension bushes, shock absorbers and driveline joints while leaving the engine looking healthy. We road test at motorway speed because a bearing hum, a vibration or a tracking fault simply does not appear at fifty kilometres an hour.

Aftermarket wheels, suspension and exhausts

Modified cars are part of the local culture. We identify what has been changed, check whether lowered springs have left the car with inadequate suspension travel or rubbing tyres, look for cracked or loose aftermarket exhaust mounts, check wheel and tyre sizes against the placard, and flag anything that will cause an insurance or compliance problem for the next owner.

Heat-damaged batteries, cooling and air conditioning

Cars parked in the open through a western Sydney summer suffer for it. We test battery condition and cranking, pressure-test the cooling system, verify both fan stages, check coolant condition and concentration, inspect hoses and belts for heat cracking, and measure air conditioning vent output with a gauge.

Repairs done cheaply after a bump

At this end of the market a minor collision is often repaired with filler and a second-hand panel rather than properly. We take paint-depth readings on every panel, look for overspray on rubbers, compare panel gaps and light date stamps, and inspect the rails and inner structure behind the bumpers for crush and cheap repair.

Deferred brakes, tyres and timing components

Cheap cars are cheap because of what is due on them. We measure pad and rotor thickness against the manufacturer's minimum, read every tyre's date code and tread across its full width, listen for chain rattle on a cold start, and check the service history for a timing belt change on the engines that need one.

Worth arranging before we arrive in Rooty Hill

  • Ask whether the car runs on LPG, and whether the gas system is still connected and working.
  • Ask who has serviced the car and whether any receipts exist.
  • Ask whether it has been modified in any way, including wheels, suspension and exhaust.
  • Ask whether it has had any accident repair.
  • Ask for the car to be left cold for our arrival.
  • Confirm both keys and the spare wheel are present before agreeing a price.
How it works

Booked, inspected, reported.

You don't need to be there and you don't need to move the car. Timing depends on inspector availability in your area and on when the seller can make the vehicle available — we confirm a time with you once we've spoken to them.

  1. 1

    Book online or call us

Send the listing and the address of the car. Tell us if there is anything specific you want checked.

  2. 2

We arrange the time with the seller

We contact the seller or the dealership directly and lock in a time that suits both sides, based on inspector availability in your area. You don't need to be there.

  3. 3

The inspection happens at the car

A qualified mobile inspector attends the vehicle where it is and works through the full checklist, including a road test.

  4. 4

You get the report before you commit

Comprehensive and Elite reports are issued on site. Essential reports are delivered the same day. Every report ends with a plain-English recommendation and a phone call if you want to talk it through.

Straight answers

What a mobile inspection can't tell you.

A pre-purchase inspection in Rooty Hill removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.

  • We do not dismantle the engine, remove the gearbox or pull interior trim, so faults only visible during disassembly can't be ruled out. On Comprehensive and Elite, the engine undertray is removed where fitted, safely accessible and permitted.
  • We work at the vehicle's location, not on a hoist. Underbody checks are done on portable ramps where safe and permitted; seized fasteners, unsafe access or seller refusal are recorded as inspection limitations.
  • A cold-start assessment is only possible if the seller leaves the engine untouched before we arrive. If the car has been warmed up, we record that in the report.
  • The road test runs on public roads at legal speeds, so it can't reproduce every intermittent fault or a fault that only appears under load or after long distances.
  • A PPSR check reports what is registered against the VIN on the day. It cannot show unreported damage or work done off the books.
  • The report describes the vehicle's condition on the day of inspection. It is not a warranty and not a valuation guarantee.
Questions

Rooty Hill buyers ask us this.

Yes. We check the tank date and compliance, lines and fittings, and whether the car genuinely runs on both fuels, and we flag a disconnected system that has been left in place.
