Battery technology partnerAVILOO Battery Diagnostics

We run our EV and hybrid battery tests with AVILOO, the Austrian battery-diagnostics specialist used by manufacturers, fleets and insurers across Europe.

  • Independent diagnostics

The result comes from AVILOO's analysis of the pack — not the seller, not a dealer, not the car's own dashboard.

  • CARA approved method

The AVILOO FLASH test is an approved battery health check, giving a state of health you can put in front of any buyer.

  • Verifiable certificate

Every test issues a numbered battery certificate with a scan-to-verify code, so the result stands up when you resell.

Battery testing available on

We test electric and hybrid vehicles from Tesla, BYD, MG, Polestar, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Cupra, GWM Ora, Mini and others.

Coverage depends on the vehicle's diagnostic protocol — tell us the year, make and model when you book and we confirm before the job is locked in.

Why an EV needs its own inspection

A clean service book tells you nothing about the pack.

On a petrol car, the engine's condition shows up in noise, smoke and oil. On an EV, the most expensive component in the vehicle degrades silently — and neither the odometer nor the dashboard will tell you how far along it is.

The pack is the most expensive part

A high-voltage battery replacement is by far the largest single repair on an electric car. Discovering a weak pack after purchase is not a $500 surprise — it changes what the whole car is worth.

Kilometres don't predict health

Two identical cars with identical odometers can sit several percent apart on State of Health, depending on charging habits, DC fast-charge frequency and how the car was stored.

Sellers can't prove it without a test

"The battery's fine" is not evidence. A dashboard range estimate is not evidence either — it's a rolling average of recent driving. A measured SoH figure is.

How to read a State of Health number

The percentage on its own means nothing until you know which band it falls in. This is the same scale our inspectors use when they write the recommendation on your report.

Walk away territory

Below 70%

Under the floor most manufacturers warrant to. Replacement or heavy depreciation is the realistic outcome.

Watch closely

70–79%

Meaningful range loss. Worth buying only at a corrected price, and only with the forecast in hand.

Healthy

80–89%

Normal wear for age and kilometres. Fine to buy — but the loss belongs in the price you pay.

Excellent

90–100%

Effectively factory-fresh capacity. Buy with confidence and use the certificate at resale.

The 5-year forecast

We don't just tell you where the battery is. We show you where it's going.

Every EV inspection includes a five-year State of Health projection built from your car's measured capacity and the degradation behaviour of that pack. It's the difference between knowing what you're buying today and knowing what you'll be selling in five years.

  • Projected State of Health for each of the next five years
  • Projected real-world range at each step
  • Distance to the 70% warranty floor most manufacturers use
  • The assumptions printed alongside the curve — no black box

Bring a number to the negotiation

"It's had light use" isn't a figure. This is.

Move the slider to see what a given State of Health means in kWh and kilometres on the car you're looking at. On your inspection, that percentage isn't a guess — it's measured off the pack.

Capacity gap calculator

See what a few percent of State of Health actually costs you.

Capacity you're not getting

10.5 kWh

64.5 kWh usable today

Range you're not getting

67 km

413 km on a full charge

Straight arithmetic on the figures you enter — no pricing assumptions. A car advertised as "like new" at 86% SoH is 14% down on the battery it was sold with. That is the gap you take to the negotiation, and it's the gap we measure.

Buyers use our report two ways.

Renegotiate

A measured capacity shortfall is something a seller can't talk their way out of. Our Elite tier goes further — we negotiate with the seller on your behalf using the findings.

Walk away

If the pack is under the warranty floor or the cell spread says a module is on the way out, you find out before the deposit, not after.

What the battery test covers

Cell-level data, not a dashboard guess.

State of Health (SoH)

The measured percentage of original capacity the pack still holds — the single number that decides what the car is worth.

Usable energy, now vs new

Usable kWh today against the pack's original usable kWh, so the loss is expressed in energy, not marketing language.

Cell voltage spread

The delta between the strongest and weakest cells. A wide spread is an early warning of a failing module long before a dashboard light appears.

Pack temperature behaviour

Minimum, maximum and delta across the pack during testing — thermal imbalance is a known precursor to module failure.

BMS & high-voltage fault scan

Stored and pending fault codes from the battery management system, inverter and charging electronics, including codes that were recently cleared.

Real-world range estimate

What the car will actually do on a Sydney commute today — and what our forecast says it will do in five years.

And the whole car, not just the battery

The battery test sits on top of a complete pre-purchase inspection — brakes, tyres, suspension, steering, 12V system, structural and accident-damage indicators, PPSR history and a road test. EVs are still cars, and they still get crashed, curbed and neglected.

A message from the owner

Every day, I speak with people buying a car they'll rely on for years to come. Some are parents searching for their teenager's first car, some are buying a safe family vehicle, and others have spent years saving for the right one.

I know how important this decision is, and I never take your trust for granted.

I've seen the disappointment of discovering hidden problems after buying a car. That's why we don't just inspect vehicles—we help protect people from making an expensive mistake. Every inspection is carried out as if we were helping our own family.

If I wouldn't recommend a car to someone I love, I won't recommend it to you.

And if the first car isn't the right one, we'll give you 40% off your second inspection because I don't want the cost of another inspection to stop you from finding the right car.

Your trust means everything to my team and me. We'll be honoured to help you make this important purchase with confidence.

FIVE STAR fabulous all I can say! I opted for their top inspection report option at approx $450 and I'm so glad I did. After the mechanical assessment the inspector then went on to negotiate a lesser price than what I had already negotiated — he leveraged his further findings. I've got back a lot more than what the report cost me. Same-day inspection with the report available later that day. Extremely thorough, professional, friendly and diligent. Highly recommend.

You guys are legends! You not only carried out a thorough inspection of my car, but you also helped negotiate the purchase price with the dealer. The money spent on your service was absolutely worth it. I highly recommend anyone buying a used car to use your service — you can buy with confidence and without hesitation. Thank you for making the whole process so easy!

Man o Man, these guys are so amazing, like an angel. They helped me with not only doing a mechanic check for a car that I purchased for my dad in Sydney from NZ. They also helped with the car transfer for my elderly dad and made sure the paperwork was all good. Their report was great and I used it to get the seller to fix all the major faults. No question is too small or big for them. Himanshu was so great with all my queries 👍. Keep up the good work boys.

These guys made buying a used car so easy. They found issues the seller never mentioned and helped me avoid a bad purchase. Would use them again for sure.

EV questions

Everything buyers ask about EV batteries.

State of Health is the usable capacity of the battery today measured against the capacity it had when it left the factory, expressed as a percentage. A pack at 92% SoH stores 92% of the energy it originally could, which translates almost directly into range. Odometer readings, service books and seller assurances tell you nothing about SoH — only a measurement does.

Don't buy the range on the dashboard. Buy the measured number.

Book an EV inspection anywhere in Sydney and get the State of Health, the cell data and the 5-year forecast before you transfer a cent.
