- A statutory warranty applies to most vehicles under 10 years / 160,000 km — limited in time and scope. Read it before you sign.
- A reputable yard will welcome an independent mechanic on site. Hesitation is a red flag.
- Dealer-prep fees, paint and interior protection, and extended warranties are all negotiable.
Private seller
- Strictly sold as-is. No statutory warranty, no cooling-off, no consumer-protection backstop.
- A PPSR check is essential — outstanding finance survives the sale and the lender can repossess the car from you.
