Pre-purchase car inspection in Gymea.

Gymea is the Shire at its most typical: family homes on steep blocks running down to the bay, a boat in one driveway out of three, a dual-cab in the next, and a Kingsway shopping strip that half the suburb passes through twice a day. Cars here are family tools. They tow, they carry, they get reversed into salt water at the ramp, and they go up and down hills from cold every morning. They are also usually well looked after by owners who use them hard and know it. The trouble for a buyer is telling the difference between a hard-used car that has been maintained to match and one that has simply been used hard. We come to the car, complete a structured inspection, run a professional multi-module diagnostic scan, road test it on the bay hills, and hand you a written, photographed report on the spot with a plain verdict and costed repairs. We do not sell cars and the seller pays us nothing.

Local conditions

Boats, bays, hills and trade utes

Port Hacking is a few minutes away and a large share of Gymea's vehicles tow to it. Boat-ramp dunking puts salt water directly onto the rear of a tow vehicle in a way that ordinary coastal air never does. The bay-side streets are steep, so brakes, clutches and underbodies wear early. And the Shire runs on trade utes that carry weight every working day.

Boat-ramp salt water on the rear of the vehicle

Reversing a trailer into Port Hacking puts salt water over the rear chassis rails, tow bar mounts, rear brake lines, exhaust, spare wheel carrier and rear suspension. We inspect all of it closely and report which corrosion is cosmetic surface rust and which has begun to attack brake lines, mounting points or structural rails.

Towing wear on transmissions and cooling

We check transmission fluid condition and colour, feel for flare and delay, scan for stored temperature and slip faults, inspect any retrofitted transmission cooler, pressure-test the cooling system and verify both fan stages, because a marginal cooling system on a tow vehicle fails on the first hot weekend with the boat on the back.

Trade ute load wear

We inspect underbody protection, sump and transmission pan for impact damage, check suspension bushes and shocks, look at the air filter and intake for dust, assess the clutch or torque converter, and examine tray and chassis mounting points for load stress and rear suspension sag.

Diesel particulate filters on short-trip utes

A diesel that does short runs between jobs and the shops never regenerates its filter properly. We read soot-load and regeneration-history data, look for limp-mode events, inspect the intake for carbon and check for oil dilution.

Steep bay-side streets

Cars on the streets running down to the water climb from cold every morning and descend on the brakes every evening. We measure pad and rotor thickness against the manufacturer's minimum, test park brake holding on a real gradient, inspect sumps and undertrays for driveway scrape damage, and assess clutch or torque-converter behaviour under load on a hill.

Salt air on everything else

Even cars that never see the ramp live in salt air here. We inspect subframes, brake and fuel lines, suspension mounting points, sill seams and boot floors from underneath on every inspection.

Cosmetic repair after car-park and driveway bumps

Big vehicles on tight driveways collect damage. We take paint-depth readings on every panel, look for overspray and mismatched light date stamps, and inspect behind the bumpers and along the sills for crush and cheap repair.

Worth arranging before we arrive in Gymea

  • Ask whether the vehicle has towed a boat and how often it has been on a ramp.
  • Ask whether it has been used for trade work and what it carried.
  • Ask when the transmission fluid and brake fluid were last changed.
  • Ask whether it has had any underbody or panel repair.
  • Ask for the car to be left cold for our arrival.
  • Confirm both keys and the spare wheel are present.
How it works

Booked, inspected, reported.

You don't need to be there and you don't need to move the car. Timing depends on inspector availability in your area and on when the seller can make the vehicle available — we confirm a time with you once we've spoken to them.

  1. 1

    Book online or call us

Send the listing and the address of the car. Tell us if there is anything specific you want checked.

  2. 2

We arrange the time with the seller

We contact the seller or the dealership directly and lock in a time that suits both sides, based on inspector availability in your area. You don't need to be there.

  3. 3

The inspection happens at the car

A qualified mobile inspector attends the vehicle where it is and works through the full checklist, including a road test.

  4. 4

You get the report before you commit

Comprehensive and Elite reports are issued on site. Essential reports are delivered the same day. Every report ends with a plain-English recommendation and a phone call if you want to talk it through.

Straight answers

What a mobile inspection can't tell you.

A pre-purchase inspection in Gymea removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.

  • We do not dismantle the engine, remove the gearbox or pull interior trim, so faults only visible during disassembly can't be ruled out. On Comprehensive and Elite, the engine undertray is removed where fitted, safely accessible and permitted.
  • We work at the vehicle's location, not on a hoist. Underbody checks are done on portable ramps where safe and permitted; seized fasteners, unsafe access or seller refusal are recorded as inspection limitations.
  • A cold-start assessment is only possible if the seller leaves the engine untouched before we arrive. If the car has been warmed up, we record that in the report.
  • The road test runs on public roads at legal speeds, so it can't reproduce every intermittent fault or a fault that only appears under load or after long distances.
  • A PPSR check reports what is registered against the VIN on the day. It cannot show unreported damage or work done off the books.
  • The report describes the vehicle's condition on the day of inspection. It is not a warranty and not a valuation guarantee.
Questions

Gymea buyers ask us this.

We look for the corrosion pattern it leaves on the rear chassis, tow bar mounts, rear brake lines and exhaust, and report it with photographs.
