The old cottages that make up most of the village were built before cars, the driveways are steep or non-existent, and the salt spray off the ocean settles on everything parked outside, every day. Add the descent from Bulli Pass and the coastal road along the cliffs, and a Thirroul car has had a harder life than its kilometres suggest. We come to the car, complete a structured inspection, run a professional multi-module diagnostic scan, road test it on the pass, and hand you a written, photographed report on the spot with a plain verdict and costed repairs. We do not sell cars and the seller pays us nothing.

Street-parked cars a stone's throw from the surf corrode faster than anywhere else we work. Brake lines, fuel lines, subframes, sill seams, door bottoms and every exposed fastener are in a constant salt attack, and the tree cover along the village streets fills every drain with leaf litter. The descent from the pass and the coastal cliff road then put brakes and suspension through work a city car never sees.
We go underneath every car. Brake and fuel lines, suspension arms and mounting points, subframe bolts, exhaust hangers, sill seams, boot floor, door bottoms and tailgate seams. A corroded brake line is a safety defect and a reason to walk away. A corroded exhaust hanger is a trivial repair. Our report separates the two rather than lumping all rust together.
Sea-change owners bring European sedans and SUVs that were garaged in the city and now live on a salty street. We check direct-injection engines for carbon, listen for timing chain wear on a cold start, assess dual-clutch and automatic transmissions, and inspect the aluminium and plastic components that salt attacks first: brake calipers, suspension arms and cooling system fittings.
Surfers' cars carry sand into seat rails, wet wetsuits into the boot and racks onto the roof. We check seat runners for binding and corrosion, inspect the boot floor and spare wheel well for damp and rust, check roof rack mounting points for corrosion and water ingress, and look at the cabin filter and evaporator housing.
The descent from the pass and the winding coastal road wear brakes, suspension and tyres. We measure pad and rotor thickness against the manufacturer's minimum, assess brake fluid condition for moisture, check bushes, ball joints and bearings for play, and read tyre wear across the full width for the alignment faults that winding roads reveal.
Cars parked under the village trees fill their cowl, sunroof and door drains. We check drains, lift carpets, test the spare wheel well and boot corners, and look for corroded seat-rail fasteners and under-dash connectors.
Old cottage driveways are steep where they exist at all. We inspect sumps, undertrays and exhausts for scrape damage and test park brake holding on a real gradient.
Coastal ultraviolet and salt destroy clearcoat, headlight lenses and rubber seals on cars that never see a garage. We assess all of them, because hazed headlights and shrunken seals are cosmetic until the lights fail and the water gets in.
You don't need to be there and you don't need to move the car. Timing depends on inspector availability in your area and on when the seller can make the vehicle available — we confirm a time with you once we've spoken to them.

A pre-purchase inspection in Thirroul removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.
