Streets falling toward North Harbour and Manly Lagoon have driveways at real gradients, some of them turning as they drop. For safe jacking we work on the street or a level apron. For testing they are ideal: a steep driveway loads the handbrake, hill-hold and low-speed clutch or torque-converter behaviour, and the scrape marks on the apron show whether the car has been grounding its front lip.
Balgowlah is a few ridges back from the ocean beach but wraps around North Harbour, so cars here get sustained salt-laden air rather than direct spray. The corrosion check is still not optional: drain paths, sill and arch seams, boot-lip undersides, brake line runs and suspension fastener surfaces are where it starts, and none of them are visible in a walk-around.
Sydney Road and the run down to the Spit carry gradient, sustained speed and heavy braking in a single leg, which is exactly what a road test needs. It also congests badly at peak and around the bridge opening schedule, so we plan the drive component around that instead of sitting in a queue and calling it a test.
Most 2093 addresses have a driveway and a garage or carport. That means daylight and space, which is what paint-depth readings and panel-gap comparison actually need to be meaningful. We ask for the car to be rolled out of the garage — a car assessed under a single garage bulb can look considerably better than it is.

Yes, deliberately. Gradients around Balgowlah load the handbrake, the hill-hold system, the brakes and the clutch or torque converter far harder than flat running, which is where a slipping automatic or a tired handbrake gives itself away. Where the car is registered, insured and the seller consents, the road test includes a gradient leg.
It is worth checking properly. Balgowlah gets salt-laden air rather than direct beach spray, which is less aggressive but still accelerates corrosion at drain paths, seams and fastener surfaces. We inspect those specific points and photograph what is there, rather than making an assumption either way based on the suburb.

We would rather not assess the body in there. Single-bulb or fluorescent garage lighting hides filler, mismatched paint and repair edges, and there is rarely room to stand back from a panel. Rolling the car out onto the driveway takes a moment and makes the body section of the report far more reliable.
Yes. Any tier covers the vehicle; the $199 battery health assessment measures the traction pack's state of health and is issued as a separate certificate. State of health is not something the dashboard displays, which is why it needs dedicated equipment.
