We use sustained-gradient running to load the engine, cooling system and transmission, which on the beaches is a better substitute for speed than driving further along Pittwater Road in traffic.
Sand and grit collect in door drains, window channels and sunroof drains on beachside cars, and blocked drains are a genuine cause of damp carpets, corroded floor pans and failed window motors.
