This is a retirement and downsizing suburb, and a large share of the cars here are being sold on behalf of a parent by an adult child who lives in Sydney, has the keys and the registration papers, and has never driven the car further than the shops. Those cars are frequently excellent: one owner, garaged, low kilometres, dealer-serviced for years. They are also cars that have spent a decade in some of the harshest sun and saltiest air in New South Wales, and that have often not moved much at all in the last couple of years. We come to the car, complete a structured inspection, run a professional multi-module diagnostic scan, road test it properly and hand you a written, photographed report on the spot with a plain verdict and costed repairs. We do not sell cars and the seller pays us nothing.

Coastal ultraviolet destroys paint clearcoat, dashboard plastics, headlight lenses and rubber seals faster than anything else a car encounters. Salt air corrodes what the sun does not reach. And a car that has done five hundred kilometres a year for the last three years has aged on the calendar in ways an odometer cannot show. Sorting the well-kept retiree car from the tired one is what the inspection is for.
We inspect paint for clearcoat failure and chalking on the roof, bonnet and boot, check the dashboard for cracking and warping, assess headlight lenses for the yellowing and hazing that fails a light output check, and check every rubber seal and trim piece for the shrinkage and cracking that lets water in.
Low use produces flat-spotted and perished tyres regardless of tread, surface-rusted and pitted brake rotors, seized caliper slides and handbrake cables, deep-cycled batteries, stale fuel and moisture in the brake fluid. We read every tyre's date code, test the battery, check the brakes for corrosion and seizure, and assess every fluid.
A car serviced by kilometres can be years overdue on brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid and timing belt. We check the record against the calendar and flag anything due by time, because on an interference engine a timing belt overdue by years is the biggest risk on the car.
When the seller has never really driven the car, the inspection replaces the missing history. We verify VIN and compliance, check for money owing, confirm who the registered owner is, and look for the evidence of how the car was actually used and maintained.
Salt air corrodes brake and fuel lines, subframes, suspension mounting points, sill seams and boot floors from underneath while the paint stays presentable. We inspect all of it and separate cosmetic surface rust from corrosion that is structural or safety-critical.
Systems that sit unused lose refrigerant through dried seals and grow mould in the evaporator housing. We measure vent output with a gauge, check compressor engagement and inspect the condenser, which corrodes early this close to the water.
Retiree cars collect car-park scrapes and kerbed wheels over the years. We take paint-depth readings on every panel, distinguish cosmetic resprays from structural repair, and check wheel rims for damage.
You don't need to be there and you don't need to move the car. Timing depends on inspector availability in your area and on when the seller can make the vehicle available — we confirm a time with you once we've spoken to them.

A pre-purchase inspection in Bateau Bay removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.
