Pre-purchase car inspection in Broadmeadow.

Broadmeadow is where Newcastle buys cars from dealers. The major showrooms, used-car yards, wholesalers and detailers clustered around Lambton Road, Brunker Road and the streets behind the racecourse handle more used-car transactions than anywhere else in Newcastle, and every one of those cars has been prepared to look its best before it goes on the line. What makes the strip different from a Sydney forecourt is where the stock comes from. A large share of it is traded in from the coalfields and the country towns to the west, another share is bought at Brisbane and Sydney auctions, and the rest is local. A mining-region ute, a Queensland hail car and a Newcastle school-run SUV can sit side by side at the same price, detailed to the same shine, with three completely different lives behind them. We come to the yard, complete a structured inspection, run a professional multi-module diagnostic scan, road test the car properly and hand you a written, photographed report on the spot with a plain verdict and costed repairs. We do not sell cars and the dealer pays us nothing.

Local conditions

Where Newcastle dealer stock actually comes from

Trade-ins from the mining towns arrive with bull bars, driving lights, unsealed-road wear and very high kilometres. Auction stock from Brisbane arrives with sun damage and, after a bad season, hail repair. Local trade-ins are the safest but the fewest. The reconditioning done before sale is aimed at the eye, not the mechanicals, and the low ground the yards sit on takes water in a serious storm.

Mining-region and country trade-ins

Utes and wagons traded in from the coalfields have done years of unsealed-road running, site work and long highway kilometres. We inspect the underbody and suspension for dust, stone and impact damage, check the air intake and filters for dust ingestion, examine bull bar and accessory mounting points for chassis stress, assess the clutch or torque converter and diesel emissions hardware, and compare the odometer against the wear inside the cabin.

Queensland auction cars with sun and hail history

Stock bought at Brisbane auctions carries a different climate. We check paint clearcoat, dashboard plastics, headlight lenses and seals for northern sun damage, and take paint-depth readings across the roof, bonnet and boot for the paintless dent repair that follows a hail season and is never mentioned on a Newcastle forecourt.

The reconditioning invoice, and what it does not say

A car prepared for sale has usually had the cheapest fix for each visible problem: budget tyres of mismatched brands, new pads on worn rotors, a battery replaced with the smallest one that fits, fault codes cleared rather than faults repaired. We read tyre brands and date codes, measure rotors as well as pads, test the battery under load and check readiness monitors to see whether codes were wiped just before sale.

Flood exposure on the low ground

The flats around the racecourse and the creek take water in serious rain events. We lift carpets, check under seats, pull the spare wheel well, extend seatbelts to look for a tide line, inspect under-dash connectors for corrosion and look for silt in the boot channels on every car inspected here.

Demonstrators and dealer-owned cars

Ex-demonstrators accumulate unusual wear from hundreds of test drives and are sometimes repaired before sale. We assess interior wear against kilometres, check for panel repair, and scan for the fault history that a car driven by many hands accumulates.

Wear items the statutory warranty will not touch

A licensed dealer must provide a statutory warranty on eligible cars, but tyres, brakes, batteries, clutches, wiper blades and anything classed as wear are excluded, and so is the price you paid. We list the wear items and near-term costs the warranty leaves with you, so the price you negotiate reflects them.

Coastal air a few kilometres inland

Even this far from the beach, Newcastle cars corrode from underneath. We inspect subframes, brake and fuel lines, suspension mounts, sill seams and boot floors on every inspection and separate cosmetic surface rust from corrosion that matters.

Worth arranging before we arrive in Broadmeadow

  • Ask the dealer where the car came from: local trade-in, country trade-in, auction or demonstrator.
  • Ask for the reconditioning invoice showing what was replaced before sale.
  • Ask for the full service history and check which workshops and which state it came from.
  • Ask what the statutory warranty excludes.
  • Ask for the car not to be started before we arrive.
  • Confirm both keys are with the car.
How it works

Booked, inspected, reported.

You don't need to be there and you don't need to move the car. Timing depends on inspector availability in your area and on when the seller can make the vehicle available — we confirm a time with you once we've spoken to them.

  1. 1

    Book online or call us

Send the listing and the address of the car. Tell us if there is anything specific you want checked.

  2. 2

We arrange the time with the seller

We contact the seller or the dealership directly and lock in a time that suits both sides, based on inspector availability in your area. You don't need to be there.

  3. 3

The inspection happens at the car

A qualified mobile inspector attends the vehicle where it is and works through the full checklist, including a road test.

  4. 4

You get the report before you commit

Comprehensive and Elite reports are issued on site. Essential reports are delivered the same day. Every report ends with a plain-English recommendation and a phone call if you want to talk it through.

Straight answers

What a mobile inspection can't tell you.

A pre-purchase inspection in Broadmeadow removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.

  • We do not dismantle the engine, remove the gearbox or pull interior trim, so faults only visible during disassembly can't be ruled out. On Comprehensive and Elite, the engine undertray is removed where fitted, safely accessible and permitted.
  • We work at the vehicle's location, not on a hoist. Underbody checks are done on portable ramps where safe and permitted; seized fasteners, unsafe access or seller refusal are recorded as inspection limitations.
  • A cold-start assessment is only possible if the seller leaves the engine untouched before we arrive. If the car has been warmed up, we record that in the report.
  • The road test runs on public roads at legal speeds, so it can't reproduce every intermittent fault or a fault that only appears under load or after long distances.
  • A PPSR check reports what is registered against the VIN on the day. It cannot show unreported damage or work done off the books.
  • The report describes the vehicle's condition on the day of inspection. It is not a warranty and not a valuation guarantee.
Questions

Broadmeadow buyers ask us this.

Almost always. Dealers on the strip are entirely used to independent inspectors. A dealer who refuses is telling you something.
