Federation streets were not built for a paint gauge

The residential grid around Edwin Street, Elizabeth Street and The Strand is mostly narrow carriageway with cars on both kerbs and very few off-street spaces. That matters for an inspection because a proper paint-depth sweep needs us to walk the full length of both flanks at a consistent angle, and a proper panel-gap read needs light down the side of the car. If the only spot is a tight kerbside gap, we ask the seller to move the car to the widest nearby street or into a driveway. Where that is genuinely impossible, the report names the specific checks the parking prevented rather than passing them as done.

Parramatta Road frontage and back-street private sales are different jobs

The northern edge of the suburb runs onto Parramatta Road, where the vehicles are more often trade or yard stock; the streets south of the station are almost entirely private sellers. At a yard we need the car unlocked, the keys available and the vehicle moved clear of the display row. At a private address we mainly need enough space to open the doors fully, a garden tap or hose access if the car has been washed, and the owner willing to leave the engine cold.

A road test that actually loads the driveline

Suburban Croydon streets are short and speed-limited, so a lap of the block tells you almost nothing about gearbox lock-up, driveline shudder, wheel balance or a steering vibration. What a mobile inspection can't tell you.

A pre-purchase inspection in Croydon removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.

We do not dismantle the engine, remove the gearbox or pull interior trim, so faults only visible during disassembly can't be ruled out. On Comprehensive and Elite, the engine undertray is removed where fitted, safely accessible and permitted.
