How Long Does a Pre-Purchase Inspection Take? A Sydney Inspector's Minute-by-Minute Breakdown
60 minutes for Essential, 90 for Comprehensive, 120 for Elite. Here's exactly what happens in each of those minutes — plus a copy-paste script to send the seller so they know what to expect.
Buyers ask this two ways. The first is genuine curiosity — they want to plan their day. The second is more urgent: the seller is asking "how long will you tie up my car?" and the buyer needs a professional answer to keep the seller onside.
This article gives you both — the minute-by-minute breakdown for each tier, plus a copy-paste message you can send the seller right now so they know exactly what to expect.

The message to send the seller
Copy, paste, adjust to your tone. This works because it sets clear expectations and reassures the seller that nothing invasive happens.
"Hi [seller name], quick heads up on the pre-purchase inspection I mentioned — the inspector from Aussie Auto Care arrives at [time] and it takes about 90 minutes. They'll do a walkaround, check the engine bay on a cold start, take some photos, run a diagnostic scan, and take the car for a short test drive around the local area (you're welcome to come along). Everything is non-invasive — no tools left behind, no fluids drained, no marks. Fully insured to be on your property. If it all checks out I'll be ready to commit today. Cheers!"
What NOT to do before the inspection
- Don't let the seller warm up the engine before you arrive — insist on a cold start. Cold engines reveal 10x more than warm ones.
- Don't inspect in the rain — hides paint issues, hides fluid leaks, hides tyre wear.
- Don't inspect at night — even under floodlights, you'll miss paint issues.
- Don't inspect if the car has just been detailed — fresh polish hides swirl marks and paint depth clues.
- Don't rush the inspector — a good inspection cannot be compressed. If the seller pressures for a shorter time, walk away.

Common questions
Common questions
What if the road test can't happen because the rego is expired?
We do a static-only inspection at reduced fee — brake test, all mechanical checks, OBD scan, but no dynamic road-driving assessment. Report notes the limitation clearly.
Can you inspect faster if I need it urgently?
No — we don't cut inspection time. If it's urgent we prioritise dispatch (earlier arrival) but the on-car time stays the same. A rushed inspection is a bad inspection.
Do I have to be there in person for the inspection?
No. Most of our buyers are at work when we inspect. We call you within 15 minutes of finishing with the verbal headline, and the full report lands in your inbox within 2 hours.
How quickly can you get to a car in outer Sydney (Penrith, Campbelltown, Palm Beach)?
Same-day for bookings placed before 9am. We route to the nearest available inspector — outer suburbs have local inspectors, not always inner-city dispatch.
Lock in your inspection
