This is one of the most apartment-dense pockets on the lower north side of the river, and that single fact drives almost everything about a 2114 inspection: access, lighting, space, and the type of use the car has had.

Basement access has to be organised, not improvised

The Shepherds Bay towers park residents in secure basements with boom gates, resident-only lifts and low clearance. An inspector who turns up without arrangements simply cannot get to the car. So we confirm in advance: who is meeting us, whether visitor access is available, and — most importantly — whether the seller will bring the car up to street level or a visitor bay in daylight. Paint condition, panel alignment, glass and underbody corrosion cannot be honestly read under low-clearance basement lighting.

Short-trip city cars wear in an unusual pattern

A car garaged here and used mainly for short runs, the ferry commute or the trip over Ryde Bridge does low kilometres but rarely gets fully warm. That pattern favours some components and punishes others, so we look specifically at oil condition and any evidence of moisture in the oil filler and cap, battery state and charging behaviour, brake disc surface corrosion and handbrake seizure, and tyre age by date code rather than tread depth alone. Low kilometres are not the same thing as low wear.

River-side humidity and the underbody

Being on the river, and with cars often standing for long periods, we pay attention to corrosion where standing moisture collects: brake and fuel lines, subframe and suspension mounting points, sill seams and jacking points, and the spare-wheel well. Everything we find is photographed and put in the report so you can see the evidence rather than take our word for it.

Straight answers

What a mobile inspection can't tell you.

A pre-purchase inspection in Meadowbank removes most of the risk in a used-car purchase. It does not remove all of it, and you should know where the edges are before you book.

  • We do not dismantle the engine, remove the gearbox or pull interior trim, so faults only visible during disassembly can't be ruled out. On Comprehensive and Elite, the engine undertray is removed where fitted, safely accessible and permitted.
  • We work at the vehicle's location, not on a hoist. Underbody checks are done on portable ramps where safe and permitted; seized fasteners, unsafe access or seller refusal are recorded as inspection limitations.
  • A cold-start assessment is only possible if the seller leaves the engine untouched before we arrive. If the car has been warmed up, we record that in the report.
  • The road test runs on public roads at legal speeds, so it can't reproduce every intermittent fault or a fault that only appears under load or after long distances.
  • A PPSR check reports what is registered against the VIN on the day. It cannot show unreported damage or work done off the books.
  • The report describes the vehicle's condition on the day of inspection. It is not a warranty and not a valuation guarantee.
